Welcome! First off, please bear in mind that I am NOT part of the AOKP Team. I am simply syncing with their github and compiling nightly builds. I do own a Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Nexus and because I suffer from crack flashing (like many of us) I keep my eyes glued to the AOKP Gerrit and once a sizable amount of work has been merged I initialize the clean up/sync/build process! I figured since I was doing this for myself that I would share my builds. These builds are pure builds and include no cherry picks from other ROMs. Unicorn Porn in its purist form!

If you are interested in the latest Gerrit Pull requests (Also known as the Open section), the link is here:
http://gerrit.sudose...status:open,n,z

If you are interested in what was accepted by the AOKP Team, that link is here:
http://gerrit.sudose...atus:merged,n,z

When I post builds I will always include a Repo Sync Time (RST) and the corresponding Last Included Merge ID (LIMI).. Therefore, by viewing the merged link (2nd link above), you should be able to accurately determine what has changed since the prior build!

  • It is in your best interest to have the latest version of either ClockworkMod Recovery or Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) before you deal with update scripts!
  • Backup your current ROM
    • Since we are dealing with nightlies, it is always good practice to keep a working backup in case the build is a lemon or something included causes your phone to crash or bootloop!
  • Wipe Data/Factory Reset (3x) and Wipe (or FormatSystem (3x)
    • This is always recommended when flashing any ROM. Dirty Flashing is when one simply installs a ROM "on top" of a preinstalled ROM. This is normally in an effort to keep user/system settings so that individual does not need to set their phone up. I would recommend taking the extra time to wipe. Wiping each three times is a precaution I and many others use with the fear that the first two wipes may have left stray data in the partitions. (Cache is wiped when doing a Factory Reset and the Dalvik Cache is located in the cache partition. Therefore it is not necessary to separately wipe cache/dalvik cache)
  • Install your choice of Nightly (ROM)
  • Install your choice of Gapps (Recommend Gapps: 07/26/2012 from goo.im)
  • Optional: Install a kernel (such as faux123's GN-LTE Kernelimoseyon's leanKernel, orfranciscofranco's franco.Kernel)

Google's Next Nexus Phone

Google have been contracting with different companies producing the Nexus devices, first HTC then Samsung (Nexus s, Galaxy Nexus) then Asus making the Nexus 7.

There is two concepts of the next nexus, first is it will be Samsung again for the Nexus phone, no matter what it's going to be named, let's say galaxy nexus 2.

because Samsung is the world top vendor for mobile phones worldwide right now, specially after the SIII and beating Apple.

and the other concept is that Google this time are going to deal with more then one manufacturer, Samsung, HTC, Asus, motorola and sony are perfect candidates for that.

until then it's all still rumors and by the way the picture above is just a concept and I don't like it, it's ugly :)

Increase Nexus Battery Life by Filtering Your Screen

Screen absorbs most of the Galaxy nexus or nexus 7 or anything, the bad news is that the lowest brightness in amoled screens are still bright, the good news that Amoled can be filtered down using a simple application and it actually works and saves battery unlike other phones or tablets with LCD screens where filtering is useless.

There is many applications but there is an application that can be toggled easily and small in size and doesn't use cpu at all, it just places a filter on top of your screen and you can darken that as much as you want, and it will simulate a lower brightness which is good for your eyes and brain at night and good for your battery.

Screen filter on Google play store it's free :D this filter is useful for Galaxy nexus owners AMOLED, Nexus S and Nexus 7 can go for the second option only.

Screen Filter: Reduce the brightness of your screen, save battery.
Reduce the brightness of your screen for night-time viewing. Applies a shade that acts as a dimmer to ensure your eyes don't hurt. Far more powerful than Android's built-in brightness setting. Great for low-light gaming, web browsing, and eBook reading. It even saves battery life for AMOLED displays!
Another tip is to use timed brightness that changes every hour instead of automatic brightness which sucks CPU just detecting and changing brightness.

Download advanced brightness from Google Play market - free and small :D works on all Nexus AMOLED or LCD.

Unlock and Root Nexus 7

I found this nice guide on XDA by FadedLite, and decided to post it here as guide because it's the easiest best I could find, and a link to the original post on XDA is on the bottom.

* Disclaimer: I do not take any responsibility for anything you do to your phone, whether be brick, break, or somehow mess it up.

Requirements
1. You must have the sdk installed and you are able to access, and use adb and fastboot.
2. You must have debugging enabled on your Nexus 7.
3. Download Su here (Chainfire's thread for supersu) (Thanks Eric_Eric_Eric)
4. Download CWM here. Scroll down to Nexus 7 and choose whether touch or regular.

Pre-Steps
To make this easier, you should put the su zip on the sdcard for later.

1. In terminal, cd to the directory you have your sdk in. Then cd into platform-tools.
2. Type adb push path-to-zip/JB-SuperSU.zip /sdcard

Unlocking Your Nexus 7

To unlock your device
1. cd to platform-tools
2. Reboot to the bootloader - adb reboot bootloader
3. Unlock your device* -
fastboot oem unlock
*You will have to accept and erase all the user data on the tablet.
*You must run this as sudo in Linux

Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery
(You're still inside the bootloader)

4. Flash CWM -
fastboot flash recovery path-to-img/CWM-grouper-recovery.img

5. Make CWM Permanent -
1. Boot into recovery
2. Go to Mounts and Storage
3. Mount /System
4. Type in Terminal*
adb shell
cd /system
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.bak
If your having trouble gaining shell, try "adb kill-server" then "abd start-server". Couple of my friends had this problem, and this should hopefully fix it.
* For some people, it has been reported that you don't have to replace recovery-from-boot.bak. The flash is enough to make the recovery stick.

Flash Su
1. Go back by pressing power button
2. Install the zip in the sdcard
Reboot and your device is now rooted!!

Dual Booting ICS and JB on Galaxy Nexus Using Bootmanager

I downloaded boot manager from the market and tried to dual boot JB and ICS rom but it just bricked my phone and I had to repair my boot.img by re flashing it from /sdcard/bootmanager/phonerom/update.zip

I also tried installing a new rom from a nandroid, and flashing from zip, flashed ICS tried to flash another ICS  nothing happen, deleted boot manager and its files, wiped data, installed it, did the above all over again for almost whole day and in the end I give up.

my point of view, boot manager is too buggy and I don't know how exactly some people got this to work on galaxy nexus.

if you know how please leave a comment below and help me and for sure this page gonna be a reference for someone else.

How To Increase Galaxy Nexus Battery Life on Jelly Bean

I was able successfully to squeeze 18 hours of usage on average out of Galaxy Nexus, that's the good news, the bad news for some of you, you need unlocked boot loader, a custom kernel and custom rom.

I am gonna share what I did exactly.

  1. Unlocked boot loader. you can google that if you didn't do already.
  2. Flashed CWM recovery.
  3. Backed up everything.
  4. Wiped Data, formatted system, wiped cache, wiped davlik cache.
  5. Downloaded and flashed AndroidMe 1.6.0 rom based on stock.
  6. Downloaded and flashed Trinity kernel TNP1536-307-JB-STABLE35.
  7. Wipe battery states.
  8. reboot system
if you don't like the colors of this kernel you can fix them (my guide to fix trinity kernel colors easy tutorial that I wrote).

Setup your device and if you have a Titanium backup of your applications restore it.

Now to get more battery life, don't worry about wifi or data, you can disable NFC and location services, all of them.

Charge it, let it drain, charge it again and you will get minimum of 18 hours of usage.

if you like my guide and you love your new Galaxy nexus don't forget to share with your friends ^^.
comment below if you have any suggestions or just wanna thank me!

Best Kernel and Rom to Save Battery on Galaxy Nexus

There is no best combination for best battery life on galaxy nexus people will tell you, but I experienced something which is best for me and hopefully will be best for you also.
I tried all kind of roms and kernels for my galaxy nexus you could imagine until this date, but what really worked for me when it comes to battery saving specially on jelly bean, this was my best.

But seriously I didn't like the color preset of Trinity kernel, so you can follow this guide on how to change your  galaxy nexus color preset (noob friendly)
